School Writing Workshop with Stretton State College
Our recent school visit to Stretton State College, Brisbane, Australia was a blast!
The writing workshop session kicked off at 11:30am with the students finding their seats after having grabbed their freebies and signed posters. The students sat in groups of five which had a mixture of those interested in writing and others keen to try their creative hands with illustration.
After the preliminary introduction by the lovely staff Maria and Kelly, Kev Webb kicked off the story writing workshop with some great tips about the process of writing, pulling out the whiteboard to draw a mindmap which can be used in idea brainstorming. This opened up to some great questions from the curious and excited writers in the room.
Lunch saw all involved be treated to pizzas which proved a hit, as the whole workshop experience was something very different for the students. Kev and I were definitely in on the pizzas!
After lunch it was Anthony's turn who pulled up some images on the projector about the illustration process, outling some key techniques for the students to consider in their own drawings.
We were blown away by the talent of the students. The ideas drawn out on the sheets of paper from the selection of reference images used was incredible.
Now, the students are currently finishing off their 1500 word short stories and the accompanying illustrations, then sending them to us here at JohnnyMarsh.net.
There is without a doubt some future authors in the group and we can't wait to see the final results come in!
Pics to come soon!
