Event Wrap Up: Dream Raider Supanova expo highlights with photos!

The lead up
This past weekend saw one of Brisbane's biggest events, the Supanova pop culture expo. It was a full, action packed weekend for us here at Johnnymarsh.net. The weekend for Dream Raider actually started on Friday with finishing setup of the booth in the morning, with no hic-cups and everything running smoothly. Don't you love it when that happens? The doors then opened to the public after lunch. This is the first year Supanova has been open to the public on the Friday afternoon and it proved to be much busier than we anticipated.
The weekend's action
Saturday welcomed the biggest crowds of the three days of Supanova. One of the popular aspects of Supanova expo is checking out the many characters and costumes from movies, TV, comics and games that populate the walkways and become mini celebrities for the event, no doubt finding their way into many Facebook albums. There was some incredible work, time and money put into many of the costumes. There was too many favourite's to list them all here, but a few of the standout characters we saw were from Halo, Aliens, Ghostbusters, wonderwoman, Darth Vader and his Troopers and of course the whimsical Mad Hatter.
Dream Raider was on show and the iconic green and black colours of the booth drew much attention from the crowd with many commenting on the eye catching presentation from afar. It was great to meet everyone who came by with new readers picking up the book, posters and badges. It was also fantastic to see people's reactions to page 15 in the book. It intrigued some so much that a few people purchased the book just having seen it! The Saturday proved so busy in fact, I had to make a mad dash to officeworks for a second print run of hundreds more flyers for Sunday as the booth ran out of the first batch the Saturday afternoon!
Over the weekend Dream Raider prizes were given away to everyone who signed up. The prizes being T-shirts and full glossed poster sized blockmounts of the cover. Special guests came by to draw the lucky winners from the pot including the Matt hatter for Saturday's draw and a Storm trooper for Sunday's draw. The villianous Darth Vader took time out from his dark tyranny to come by and have a read of Dream Raider for himself! Cool!
The lucky giveaway winners were announced this week and are listed here.
Wraping up the wrap up
It was a successful event all round for Dream Raider and it's exciting to see once again how great teen books are enjoyed by all ages. I want to mention that part of Dream Raiders success at the expo was because of our amazing staff helping out with such enthusiasm and dedication. The event would not have run smoothly without your help and Kev and I want to thank you again for all your effort.
If you went to Supanova, you can tell us some of the cool things you saw with a comment below.
